We are the Biennale in Berlin.

Biennale means:

The exhibition takes place every 2 years.

There are biennale exhibitions in many countries.

The Biennale in Berlin is one of the most important.

It takes place every 2 years.

Every 2 years we create a new exhibition.

The exhibition is about the art of today.

Come and visit us.

And see what artists are doing.

At the Biennale in Berlin you can see

·      Paintings

·      Sculptures

·      Films

Every Biennale is different.

Every curator has different ideas.

The curator is the person in charge of the Biennale.

He decides which art to show.

That makes every Biennale different.

We want our curators to try out new things.

For example, they can show

·      art by unknown artists.

·      art that is difficult to sell.

That is very exciting for our visitors.

Young artists show their works of art at the Biennale.

Many become successful artists after the Biennale.

Many people work in the area of art.

And they come to the Biennale to meet each other.

The 12th Biennale in 2022.

The 12th Biennale opened on Saturday 11th June 2022.

And closes on Sunday 18th September 2022.

There are 6 centers for the Biennale:

·      Hamburger Bahnhof – Museum für Gegenwart – Berlin

·      KW Institute for Contemporary Art

What are the opening times?

The 6 centers have different opening times.

Open from 11 am to 7 pm.

Closed on Tuesdays.

Akademie der Künste, Pariser Platz

Open from 11 am to 7 pm.

Closed on Tuesdays.

Dekoloniale Memory Culture in the City

Open all the time.

It is a display window.

Hamburger Bahnhof – Museum für Gegenwart – Berlin

Tuesday to Friday from 10 am to 6 pm.

Thursday from 10 am to 8 pm.

Saturday and Sunday from 11 am to 6 pm.

Closed on Mondays.

KW Institute for Contemporary Art

Open from 11 am to 7 pm.

Closed on Tuesdays.

Stasi Headquarters. Campus for Democracy

Open from 11 am to 6 pm.

Closed on Tuesdays.

Do I need to wear a face mask?

You have to wear a face mask at some of the centers.

Please look for the signs.

We suggest you wear a face mask everywhere.

Where can I buy a ticket?

Please buy your ticket online.

Then you do not have to queue for your ticket.

How much is the ticket?

Tickets cost 18 €.

Are there any reductions?

These people do not pay for their ticket:

·      Anyone under the age of 18

·      Anyone who has a Berlin Pass

·      Members of the association KW Freunde.

On the first Sunday of the month

entry to the Biennale is free.

These people only pay 9 € for their ticket:

·      Students

·      People doing federal voluntary service

·      BBK members

·      Unemployed people

·      Disabled persons with at least a moderate level of disability.

Please book your ticket online.

Choose:

I am allowed to

·      have a free ticket.

·      have a reduction.

Please bring your ID to the Biennale.

And for example,

·      Your disability card.

·      Or your Berlin Pass.

Can I also go to the events with my ticket?

Yes.

But you have to register for some events.

Can I visit all 6 centers with one ticket?

Yes, you can.

How do I show my ticket?

We will send you the ticket in an email.

You can print it out.

Or show it on your mobile phone.

I cannot go to the Biennale.

But I have bought a ticket.

Do I get my money back?

Sorry, no.

We cannot give money back.

There are other exhibitions at Hamburger Bahnhof.

Can I visit them with my ticket?

Yes, you can.

Can I hand in my jacket and bag?

There are lockers at all of the centers.

You can take

·      small bags

·      backpacks

into the centers.

Are all the centers barrier-free?

These 3 centers are wheelchair accessible:

·      Akademie der Künste, Hanseatenweg

·      Akademie der Künste, Pariser Platz

·      Dekoloniale Memory Culture in the City

These 3 centers have limited wheelchair access:

·      Hamburger Bahnhof – Museum für Gegenwart – Berlin

·      KW Institute for Contemporary Art

·      Stasi Headquarters. Campus for Democracy

There are elevators at all of the centers.

And toilets for disabled persons.

Is there any upsetting information at the Biennale?

Some parts of the Biennale include violence.

For example:

·      sexual violence

·      racism

·      sexism

·      torture

·      war

We do not recommend the Biennale for

children under 14 years of age.

Can I take photos?

Yes you can.

But:

·      You have to hold the camera in your hand.

·      You are not allowed to use a camera stand.

·      You are not allowed to use a flash.

·      You are not allowed to sell the pictures.

Some works of art have a sign.

You are not allowed to photograph these works of art.

How do I get around the Biennale?

There are maps for all of the centers.

You get the maps at the entrance.

The maps are free.

What is the best way to get to the Biennale?

You can drive to the Biennale.

But parking is often difficult.

You can take a bike.

Or you take the bus and train.

Can I take a pet to the Biennale?

No.

Service dogs and guide dogs are allowed.

But pets are not allowed.

Where can I buy food and drinks?

Sometimes the cafes are closed.

Can I take my own food and drink to the Biennale?

No.

There is a guide book.

There is a lot of information in the guide book:

The book is only available in Standard English.

Are there guided tours for the Biennale?

Yes.

There are guided tours in different languages:

·      Standard English

·      Standard German

·      one focus tour will be in German Sign Language (DGS)

The guided tours are free. You only need a ticket for the exhibition.
